The Verdict
Let’s be honest, sometimes we just can’t go past a goode (pun intended), honest pub. We’re talking hearty, wholesome meals, refreshing bevvies and a lively, welcoming atmosphere. What’s not to love about that?!
Conveniently located in The Brickworks at LynnMall, Goode Brothers ticks all those boxes…and so much more! The family-friendly gastropub will be on the fast-track to becoming your new local with their unique “Kiwitalian” fare and goode—sorry, we can’t help ourselves— times aplenty!
The newly opened eatery is hella slick with a modern, industrial fit-out. The abundance of bricks makes it feel homely and plays homage to the heritage of the site—it is an old brickworks, after all. With plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, the light and bright space oozes indoor-outdoor flow. You’ll find leaners and stools, cushioned booths, long benches and tables designed to seat all your friends and whānau.
Wooden furnishings and white tiles are complemented with pops of vibrant blue and red. And, like every good gastropub, there’s a well-stocked bar with Negroni on tap and several tellies screening live sport. Yep, it’s the kind of spot you could happily eat (and drink!) the day away.
As for the menu, Goode Brothers gives Italian classics a modern Kiwi twist. Made fresh daily, the menu is easy to decipher with no weird and wonderful ingredients—you won’t find gross kale and activated charcoal here!
However, they DO have an epic pizza and pasta game. Munch your way through a classic Margherita or pepperoni pizza or go for something a little more ooh la la. Our fave? The pesce e carne pizza topped with prawns, chorizo, courgette and mozzarella—one slice is never enough!
Their pasta creations are equally mouth-watering and, if you like doing your own thang, there’s a create-your-own pasta menu—amazing! Start with your preference of carb (fettuccine, spaghetti, gnocchi etc), add sauce (beef bolognese, creamy chicken, spiced meatballs etc) and the deliciousness will have you licking your plate clean!
You’ll also find all your Kiwi pub faves such as seafood chowder, salt and pepper squid, mammoth burgers and—of course—incredible fish and chips. For the ultimate comfort dish, dig into the tender slow-cooked beef cheek served with butternut puree and polenta chips.
Littlies are well looked after with a dedicated kids’ menu—complete with banana splits and rocky road sundaes! Rest assured, there are also plenty of healthy options with dishes crafted around guidelines set by Heart Foundation NZ.
Speaking of dessert, you’ll also find sweet treats for grown-ups! Choose between decadent chocolate torte, ginger fig pudding or pane dolce (aka a type of French toast served with toffee apple and rhubarb). As a nod to their Italian roots, you’ll also find zesty limoncello crème and affogato served with your choice of liqueur.
All that feasting is sure to make one hungry so wash down with a wine or refreshing beer—you’ll find Monteith’s, Heineken and Tiger on tap. There are also non-alcoholic options including barista-brewed coffee, tea and juices.
There’s always something happening at the bustling local. Visit on a pizza day (Monday and Tuesday FYI) and test your knowledge on quiz nights. Keep an ear out for live music events and pasta-making classes—fun! And, if New Lynn is too much of a hike, you’ll also find Goode Brothers in Botany and NorthWest.
So, if you’re after goode times (it’d be rude not to!), Goode Brothers has your back! Ciao, bro.
