The Verdict

If you’re ever desperate for a ‘gram worthy, drool worthy Auckland cafe snap, go to L’oeuf in Mt Albert. This lovely neighbourhood café knows how to transform the humble egg into something spectacular. If eggs aren’t your thing, do not fret! L’oeuf offer delicious exotic dishes such as The Cambodian (sticky black banana rice), The Geisha (light, fresh soba noodles), and the ever-popular Banh Mi.

However, the prettiest of them all is The Nest. Two soft-boiled eggs crumbed with sunflower seeds, encased in a filo pastry nest, beetroot ketchup and feta—it’s almost too beautiful to eat.

Sumi

It’s a Tuesday night in Auckland city but you’d easily mistake it for the weekend at Sumi. The new izakaya spot by owner-chef Jason Lee (Wakuwaku, Katsu Katsu, Tsuru Tsuru) in City Works Depot is humming.

Kinfolk

Funny that the first thing I noticed about Kinfolk had little to do with the actual food—rather, it was the artwork on the back wall depicting three women on lilos, eating pasta. I like this place already, had been my immediate thought.
