There’s now one more reason to head to Auckland’s City Works Depot and that’s the addition of Norma Taps, located just a mere 20-second stroll from the legendary Best Ugly Bagels, this dapper new spot has quickly become a local favorite.

In the summer of 2023, Norma Taps emerged as the brainchild of Luke Jones and Dave Lincoln of Honest Rum, along with Dan Pinto from the popular Italian food truck, Passa Passa. Locals have quickly embraced it, and it’s easy to see why—Norma Taps has mastered the art of vibes, aesthetics, drinks, and (last but absolutely not least) mouthwatering food.

As you approach Norma Taps, the ambiance captivates you. Exposed cream industrial ceilings meet mahogany wood panels lining the walls. But the highlight? A row of golden taps at the back of the bar—it's namesake. It’s a visual feast.

Step inside, and you’ll find yourself in a sophisticated yet industrial safe haven. Inspired by Japanese listening rooms and paying homage to the brewery that once stood there, Norma Taps strikes the perfect balance. And those golden taps lining the back wall aren’t just for show, either—they dispense a curation of New Zealand craft beer from the likes of Parrotdog and Sawmill and wine from Big Fizz and Still life, to name a few. But the team at Norma haven’t just stopped at beer and wine. Handcrafted cocktails flow from these taps, too. So, whether you’re craving a Parrotdog Birdseye Hazy IPA or a freshly poured espresso martini, Norma Taps is sure to slake your thirst.

Now I can’t forget about the food, Norma Taps’ menu is divided into snacks, shared plates, pizza, and dolce (dessert). The best way to experience the menu is to sample a little something from each section of the menu with some of the crowd favorites being the cacio e pepe bites (an elevated mac ‘n’ cheese experience) the brussels sprouts that smack the tastebuds with flavour thanks to a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, and, the XO sauce, chili pork, and fennel sausage pizza topped with salt-and vinegar shredded potato.

So If you’re looking for a cosy spot to call your new local (or you want a vibey spot to watch the game) get down to City Works Depot, immerse yourself within the mahogany walls of Norma Taps and discover which tap makes you tick.
