A brand new, multi-million dollar, totally immersive experience created by Hollywood set designers has opened in Auckland CBD.
With 19 awe-inspiring rooms including a colour maze, an underwater adventure, musical stairs, a miner’s cave, a spaceship room, the interior of an Egyptian pyramid and so much more, this is like a jacked-up old-school funhouse, but better.
Taking advantage of the recent writer’s strike in the US gave Kiwi owners David Parker-Smith and Michelle Moray-Cook a window within which to create this epic attraction—with the help of set designers of blockbuster sci-fi and high fantasy movies and TV shows, including Amazon’s Rings of Power—after the original Sensory Maze was destroyed in last year’s Auckland Anniversary floods.
Using projection mapping—an interactive technology used in US theme parks to create an immersive experience—you can journey through the centre of an active volcano in a Lava Room, take a trip into ethereal beauty in a Kiwi Glow Worm Cave complete with a rope swing bridge and even marvel at a Vortex Tunnel that simulates travelling through an infinite wormhole through space and time.
Fire all your senses as you bathe in the scent of candy floss in Candy Land as jet plane sweets fly overhead, test your sense of smell in the Scent Hallway and dive into cloud-like softness in the Foam Pit. There’s even a Doom Room where you’re deprived of your senses entirely.
What's more, the creators have made the maze accessible to a wide range of people, including those with physical disabilities and neurodivergent individuals. How good.
Sound like a bit of you? This experience is for all ages and is open until 9pm every day (10pm on Saturdays) so come and check it out, rainy day not compulsory.
