The Verdict
If you like your sweet treats à la française, this is the place for you. Philippe's Chocolates is renowned for churning out some of the best French pastries in town, and their abilities don't end there. They also have a wide assortment of cakes, chocolates, breads and other treats also available from the Grey Lynn dessert parlour.
The pastry line up includes all your French favourites such as the humble croissant, pain au chocolat as well as a selection of danishes and brioche. A delectable array of handmade chocolates and truffles in flavours such as pistachio, lime caramel and strawberry make a great choice for gifts with several gift packs available. Big cakes, small cakes, Philippe's has them all including the impressive Croquembouche, a traditional French pièce montée made up of profiteroles filled with your choice of crème pâtissière. Depending on the season and current inspiration of the chefs, you can also find a variety of French imported products such as Anis de Flavigny candies and the famous Bonne Maman jams.
