Sticky Fingers Cafe, Rosedale Auckland

The Verdict

Tucked away in the industrial area of Rosedale, Sticky Fingers Cafe is an unexpected—but welcome—gem. Serving a mouth-watering all-day menu alongside cabinet goodies and an array of bevvies, it’s the ultimate breakfast (or lunch!) pozzy.

The light and bright café boasts modern décor with pops of homely touches. There’s an artistically tiled counter, polished concrete floor and Scandinavian-esque wooden furnishings. Greenery hangs from above, a hand-painted coffee mural fills a wall and a vintage teapot collection (cute!) is proudly displayed.

Find a seat inside or outside—there’s a massive covered patio—as you eye up the incredible menu. Your dietary requirements are NBD at the accommodating café with a tonne of GF, DF, EF (that’s egg-free), vegetarian and vegan-friendly options.

Start your day right with an acai bowl, spirulina eggs or Sticky Fingers’ signature ‘energiser’ breakfast. The latter features homemade bread (which is totally gluten, dairy, egg and yeast-free) paired with beets, minted feta and smoked salmon—it’s delicious AND nutritious!

You’ll also find three equally epic eggs bene options: tarragon mushrooms, free-range bacon or smoked salmon. They’re served with house-made hash cakes, perfectly poached eggs and lashings of hollandaise.

Those with a sweet tooth (guilty!) will relish in the buttermilk pancakes. Choose between berry compote with salted caramel or bacon with gooey caramelised banana. For something a lil healthier, there are allergy-friendly pikelets that are gluten-free and vegan-friendly.

There’s also plenty of hearty lunch dishes up for grabs. Dig into a steak sarnie, pan-fried fish or Moroccan-style lamb served on a bed of toasted buckwheat tabbouleh.

Seafood lovers won’t be able to go past the Triton salad packed with shrimp, calamari, mussels and clams—get in my belly! Love dumplings? Check out the vareniki—potato and cabbage dumplings that are a nod to the owners’ Russian heritage.

As for the drinks, there’s no shortage of options. You’ll find the usual suspects (coffee, tea and juice) as well as some more inventive numbers. We’re talking black bullet coffee, five superfood lattes (beetroot, turmeric, matcha, charcoal AND vibrant blue algae) or a hot ‘lemongini’ with lemon, ginger and honey. We can’t go past their gluten and dairy-free superfood smoothies—espec the choco maca!

For a quick and easy meal on the go (nearby office workers, we’re looking at you), Sticky Fingers’ cabinet is jam-packed with handmade deliciousness. We’re talking salads, sandwiches, cakes and slices.

A special shout-out must be made to their comforting house-made pies—they’re some of the best in Auckland! Rest assured, there are plenty of healthy and low-carb options for the sporty folk amongst us.

What’s more, Sticky Fingers Cafe is only too happy to cater to events or office lunches and there’s a dedicated kids’ menu—pretty ideal considering JUMP’s trampoline park is just around the corner!

Dietary requirement or not, this North Shore gem needs to be added to your brunch bucket list!
