The Chamberlain, Britomart Auckland

The Verdict

A friendly local bar in the heart of Auckland’s CBD?! You must be kidding! Nope, we’re dead serious and we’re talking about none other than The Chamberlain. Open until the wee hours, the Britomart bar-slash-pub serves hearty fare alongside refreshing beersies, wine and cocktails.

Sitting pretty on Tyler Street, the spacious venue showcases a modern and moody interior. There are dark wooden floors, exposed brick walls and a cosy open fireplace. Seating is ample with tables and bar stools for your entire after-work squad.

The Chamberlain has cemented itself as one of the city’s best watering holes—and there’s always something goin’ down! Happy hour kicks off daily from 4pm to 6pm with half-price beers and wine specials. It’s also a fave spot to watch the rugby on the big screen—it seriously goes OFF!

It wouldn’t be a local without a decent bevvy list and The Chamberlain brings its A-game. There’s an ever-changing selection of craft beers with brews from New Zealand and beyond. Can’t decide? Opt for a tasting paddle to find your fave. There’s also wine, cocktail jugs (perf for the squad) and quirky cocktails. Flat white martini? Yes, please.

The hearty pub grub will have you coming back on the regular, especially the finger-licking beef or pork ribs! Ribs aside, there’s also lamb chops, skewers, loaded fries and deep-fried pies (yes, it’s a thing) to woo your taste buds. If you’re a sucker for a burger, choose between the chicken parmigiana burger or the appropriately named “beast burger”. The latter is stacked high with two beef patties, melty cheese, crispy onion rings AND bacon. Cheat meal, come at us!

So, if you’re after a comforting lunch, after-work bevvies or a place to cheer on the ABs, make a beeline for The Chamberlain. The friendly inner-city local is sure to impress.
