The Verdict
You’ll want a hefty appetite when you roll on up to Newmarket's newcomer Tucks And Bao. The Asian fusion bar and restaurant is your one-stop pozzy for hearty, mouth-watering eats. There’s a dedicated bao menu starring seven (!) steamed bun beauties, including a succulent pork belly number with crispy crackling, hoisin sauce, coriander and roasted peanuts. With small plates, shared plates and plates for the kids, Tucks and Bao is your one-stop shop for Asian fusion.
If you’re particularly hungry, opt to do the chairman bao challenge. This bao-ger (hah) is stacked high with two mince patties, six slices of cheese, 12 rashers of bacon, two burger salads and six (!) Chinese pork sausages. It’s served with half a kilogram of fries, three baby bao and a one-litre freakshake. Have you got what it takes?

Sumi
It’s a Tuesday night in Auckland city but you’d easily mistake it for the weekend at Sumi. The new izakaya spot by owner-chef Jason Lee (Wakuwaku, Katsu Katsu, Tsuru Tsuru) in City Works Depot is humming.
Bistro Saine
Wander down the cobblestones of Saint Patrick’s Square and you might happen upon the luxurious first floor of newly-built Hotel Indigo, housed in a restored heritage building. You can enter through the other side too—the Albert Street entrance blending into the concrete jungle as if it was always there (just look for the elegant Bistro Saine font out front).
