The Verdict
As if Ponsonby Road wasn’t already our go-to for all things eating, dining and shopping, this foodie precinct / Ponsonby paradise has welcomed a new contemporary Chinese restaurant to the area.
From the team behind cult Asian eateries Eden Noodles and Biang Biang Noodles, new spot XièXiè, meaning 'thanks' in Mandarin, is a place where gratitude meets gastronomy—in short, an eatery that welcomes both exceptional eats and immaculate vibes.
Thoughtfully incorporating influential and iconic Chinese dishes with contemporary techniques and innovative flavours, the team at XièXiè prides itself on creative Chinese fusion that both astounds and delights.
Now, food. Don’t look past the slow-cooked eggplant stuffed with spiced pork mince and honey to start that pairs perfectly with the beer-battered Asian mushrooms—to dip or not to dip, that is the question. Dumplings are mandatory—sorry we don’t make the rules—especially where truffle pork with oyster mushroom dumplings are concerned.
Save room for mains as the Xinjiang cumin lamb ribs are a true menu masterpiece. With small bites, big bites, dumplings and desserts on offer, XièXiè is made for rallying the gang to maximise trying everything on the menu. Can't decide? XieXie now does a banging bottomless brunch at the weekends. Praise be.
