The Verdict

Let’s be honest, Takapuna is the place to be during an Auckland summer. The seaside ‘burb is all about beach walks, swimming, boutique shopping and—the best part—great eats and drinks.

Situated a hop, step and a jump from the beach, Zomer is the locals’ go-to for an early morning coffee, cruisy brunch or a refreshing bevvy after a stroll along the beach. 

The café is all about indoor-outdoor flow with ample outdoor seating. And yes, they’re dog-friendly! Dine al fresco underneath a yellow and white pinstripe canopy or opt for a pozzy in the light and bright café. The seaside vibes continue inside with brightly striped cushions, wooden furnishings and quirky beach art hanging from the walls. Is this a café or a cosy bach? It’s anyone’s guess!

Known and loved for their vibrant brunch fare, Zomer’s new menu will have you coming back time and time again. Kick-start your day with a smashed avo bagel, a Spanish-esque omelette or creamy mushrooms paired with garlic and chorizo. We’ll have one of each, thanks!

If you’re a sucker for all things halloumi, don’t go past the lemon and herb grilled halloumi. The cheesy delight showcases avocado, spinach and roast tomato alongside potato sourdough. If you’ve got a sweet tooth on you, dig into Zomer’s brioche French toast. We’re talking berries two ways (coulis and fresh), grilled banana and lashings of vanilla maple sauce. Yep, you’ll be tempted to lick the plate clean.

Visit for lunch and the mouth-watering goodness continues. Choose between comforting seafood chowder, an epic bacon and egg sammie or salmon ceviche jam-packed with citrus, cucumber and coriander. The chicken salad also deserves a special shout-out for its unmissable combo of orange, papaya and avocado—it’s summer on a plate. Zomer also has daily specials that showcase seasonal ingredients and a whole lot of yum!

Be sure to arrive thirsty because Zomer has a strong drink game. Hot days will have you sipping on freshly squeezed juice, iced frappes, smoothies and house-made sodas. You’ll also find silky smooth coffee, an impressive range of teas and decadent hot choccies made with melted chocolate. If you can’t get enough of their coffee, Zomer also sells coffee beans for your at-home brew—they’ll even freshly grind them for you.

Life’s too short to say no to dessert—especially when Zomer’s cabinet goodies are up for grabs. Baked fresh with a whooole lot of love, there’s everything from tarts and cookies to cakes and muffins (we love the chilli and cheese one). Keep an eye out for their heavenly apple turnover—it’s nothing short of divine! 

Beach vibes paired with an incredible menu… what’s not to love?! Needless to say, we’ll be brunching at Zomer all summer long. See you there!
