If you thought the days of hidden bars and secret venues were long gone, think again.

Tucked deep within an unassuming laneway in the heart of The Rocks, 151 is the cosy new secret speakeasy worth seeking out this winter. Only marked by the digits on its door on Mill Lane, this new pop up bar features a whole lot more than meets the eye.

staircase going into hidden barAs with most venues down in The Rocks, 151 emits an old-world charm, filled with velvet drapes, vintage furniture, and antiques inspired by ye ol’ Fitzgerald hubris of the 1920s. When you enter, you’ll descend a wooden staircase into a hidden bar where whiskey barrels are flogged as tables, vines run across exposed brick, and festoon lights are the only way to actually see anything.

If you manage to hit 151 at Happy Hour (which goes from 4pm to 6pm Wednesdays through to Saturdays), you’ll be in for $5 Young Henrys Beer and cider and $10 Margaritas. After this, you’re in for late-night feasts fuelled with an array of bar snacks like sliders and toasties.

151 won’t be around for a long time though, the pop-up speakeasy is open from Wednesdays through to Saturday, 4pm until late, from now until mid-June.

Now, keep warm with Sydney's best cosy pubs.
