NSW’s First Luxury Bathhouse Resort Is Opening Just One Hour From Sydney

Australia's bathhouse obsession shows no signs of slowing down. Over the past few years, Sydney has embraced contrast therapy with open arms, packing out saunas, cold plunges and communal bathhouses across the city. But until now, one thing has been missing: somewhere you can turn a few hours of self-care into an entire weekend away.

That's about to change. Opening on 1 September, AURA Spa & Bathhouse is transforming Crowne Plaza Hawkesbury Valley into what will be NSW's first luxury bathhouse destination, bringing together a full contrast therapy circuit, float therapy, spa treatments, wellness dining and overnight accommodation—all just an hour from Sydney.

Set across eight hectares of landscaped gardens overlooking the Blue Mountains, the new wellness destination encourages guests to spend the day drifting between mineral pools, traditional cedar and barrel saunas, steam rooms and cold plunges before settling in for a treatment, a long lunch or an overnight stay.

At the heart of the experience is a complete bathhouse circuit that reinforces both traditional bathing rituals and modern strategies. Guests can move between heated mineral pools, an outdoor cold plunge and barrel sauna, infrared heat therapy, steam rooms and dedicated relaxation spaces, or settle in to a float room featuring two built-in pools beneath a ceiling of stars.

The project also represents a major evolution for the Hawkesbury property. Many locals will remember Villa Thalgo, the day spa that occupied the site for more than 25 years before being devastated by floods in recent years. Rather than simply rebuilding, the team chose to completely rethink the space, creating a purpose-built wellness destination designed for both day visitors and overnight guests.
