Bronte’s Historic Surf Club Is Taking Shape With A Rooftop Garden And Sweeping Ocean Views

One of Australia’s oldest surf clubs is taking shape again, with construction progressing on the $24 million redevelopment of Bronte Surf Life Saving Club.
Founded in 1903, the beachfront institution is being rebuilt with upgraded lifesaving facilities, new public amenities and a rooftop garden overlooking the ocean. Here’s where the project is up to.

What The New Bronte Surf Club Will Include
Designed by Warren and Mahoney, the new clubhouse will deliver improved facilities for volunteer lifesavers and lifeguards, including clearer patrolling views across Bronte Beach.
The plans also include accessible public amenities, a new kiosk and a landscaped rooftop garden with sweeping coastal views. A new seawall is being delivered alongside the building to help protect the surf club, beach and coastal walk.
Where Construction Is Up To
Construction advanced throughout August, with the Level 1 concrete slab completed and the lift core extended from Level 1 to roof height. Work also progressed on the roof structure, while masonry and essential services began inside the amenities building.
Following the roof slab pour scheduled for late September, crews will turn their attention to internal wall framing, electrical and hydraulic rough-ins and waterproofing. The remaining seawall works will add tactile indicators, stair safety treatments and the final bleacher step.
When The New Bronte Surf Club Will Open
The redevelopment is being delivered by Waverley Council in partnership with Bronte Surf Life Saving Club, with support from the NSW and federal governments.
The new clubhouse is currently slated for completion in April 2027. Until then, the coastal walk remains accessible through a temporary diversion around the construction site.
