Need a cosy weekend activity to up the culture this winter? Cerith Wyn Evans is debuting his first comprehensive Australian exhibition, in the light of the visible, inviting visitors to take a stroll through a passage of space and time. The MCA will host a selection of his major works alongside several site-specific pieces, engaging and emulating the natural environment of Warrane (Sydney Harbour).

Wyn Evans is known best for his large-scale contemporary environments of light and sound, utilising mediums of glass and neon light to question relationships between language and space, time and perception, and thought and meaning.
The exhibition will feature towering light sculptures, including F=O=U=N=T=A=I=N (2020), an epic architectural wall of white neon. The artist takes inspiration from the choreography of Japanese Noh theatre, with this series mapping the notation of Noh movements as gestures suspended in space. Other featured works include Two Gravity Gongs (2025), echoing the distinctive sounds of the area, and Composition for 37 Flutes (2018), in which 37 glass pipes ‘inhale’ and breathe sound into the gallery.
The MCA is opening in the light of the visible to audiences of all ages, running a series of public programs which include an exclusive in-conversation event with the artist, experimental film screenings, morning tai chi and guided walking tours. Head down to the MCA for an eye-opening individual experience or a day trip with the kids, with the cafe and store open all day.
