Sydney, your biggest gardening dreams have come true. Skip the Bunnings trip, the City of Sydney is handing out free trees for your home for one day only, and yes—there is a sausage sizzle.
The City Of Sydney’s “Tree Giveaway” has been a yearly initiative for a while now, with its main goal to encourage residents to increase Sydney’s tree canopy to 50 percent by 2030.
On the day, you’ll find a mammoth range of foliage to choose from with small, medium and large native and exotic trees on offer. You’ll be able to take home bottlebrush, banksias, gardenias, hibiscus, lilly pillys and even mega beauties like jacarandas (so you can create your own purple rain come November).
On top of this, there’ll also be the aforementioned sausage sizzle and staff on-site who’ll be ready to give you advice on how to plant your tree and general tree maintenance. You’ll just need to bring along identification that clearly states your current residential address (each household is entitled to a max of two free trees before they run out).
There’ll only be 1000 free trees available and, naturally, this giveaway is extremely popular—so we suggest heading down as early as possible.
