Sydney, your biggest gardening dreams have come true. The City of Sydney is handing out free trees for your home. Yep, you can score plant babies for zero dollars—what a win.

The City Of Sydney’s “Tree Giveaway” has been a yearly initiative for a while now. In 2022, its main goal is to plant a whopping one million new trees across Greater Sydney by the end of the year. How will they achieve this? Well, they hope to give away more than 25,000 trees to thousands of Sydney households this year. This month alone, they're giving away 9700 trees.

As part of the March drop, you’ll find a mammoth range of foliage to choose from with small, medium, and large native, flowering, and fruit trees on offer. You’ll be able to take home magnolias, bottlebrush, lilly pillys, and even citrus trees like lemon, lime, orange, and Japanese mandarin.

So, how do you claim your tree freebie? First up, you have to live in one of the 33 eligible Local Government Areas (LGA), which you can check over here. If you live in one of the participating LGAs, then head to this site and create a Planning Portal Account or log in with your MyServiceNSW details (the latter should be a cinch these days). Then, simply follow the prompts for 'Free Tree Application' and you're on the home stretch, baby.

Once you've filled that all out, you've just got to play the waiting game till Bunnings contacts you via email, phone, or text to let you know that your new green baby is ready for collection. Then, pop into your local Bunnings store, pick up your tree, and head home to work on your green thumb.

As we said, there’ll only be 9700 free trees available this month and, naturally, this giveaway is extremely popular—so we suggest getting on it ASAP.

Head over here for all the details.
