Soak Up Some Serious Anime Nostalgia At This Japanese Band’s Only Aussie Show

By

Whether you consider yourself an anime aficionado or not, chances are you’ve been influenced by Japan’s achingly cool pop culture scene lately. Think binge-worthy shows you devour in a single sitting on Netflix, manga collabs with your fave fashion houses or most likely, the insanely addictive music that soundtracks anime movies and series. Fortunately, now is your chance to transport yourself inside your fave anime or manga, by rocking out at legendary Japanese band FLOW’s only Aussie show.

With over 12 albums and 30 singles under their guitar straps, the iconic five-piece band first hit the scene in 2003, and have since garnered a massive fan base thanks to their alt-rock beats—many of which you’ll recognise from iconic anime series. We’re talking about the likes of Naruto, Boruto, Code Geass, Persona, Eureka Seven, Rurouni Kenshin and Durarara—they’ve even covered Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods' Cha-la Head Cha-la.

Luckily for us—in their only Australian show as part of a massive global tour—Smash! is bringing the Japanese rock royalty to Sydney, hitting the stage at The Star on Saturday 20 July.

Concert

As part of their 2024-2025 Anime Shibari World Tour (which means “Anime-only” in Japanese), FLOW will dedicate their entire set list to the classic songs that soundtracked popular anime shows and flicks. Some of their most memorable tunes that will bless your ears include Hero 〜Kibou no Uta〜 featured in Dragonball Z, Sign (streamed over 100 million times on Spotify) from Naruto, World End from Code Geass and Days from Eureka Seven—plus loads more to cue the nostalgia.

And, as a tribute to FLOW’s anime heritage, the key visuals of the world tour will feature the five band members depicted as anime characters—it’s a whole vibe and we’re here for it. Get a sneak peek of it on their IG here

With tickets selling fast, snag yourself a spot at this epic show—colourful, manga-inspired ‘fits are encouraged.
