5 Authentic Margarita Recipes To Carry You Through Margarita Month

In case you missed it, February is Margarita Month and you know what that means? No matter where the hand on the clock is, it’s unapologetic margarita time. But while you might know how to whip up the OG, we’re here to show you how to shake things up and approach the ol’ classic with a spicy, zingy or fresh twist.

So, to help us do just that, we’ve teamed up with tequila lords Patrón to bring you five authentic margarita recipes to ignite that vacay feeling and carry you through Margarita Month and beyond. 

Spicy Margarita

A tasty spin on the OG, this cocktail is a fun one for when guests arrive and things start to heat up. 

Ingredients

45ml Patrón Silver infused with jalapeño*
15ml Agave syrup
90ml Lime juice
Lime wedge and sliced jalapeño for garnish

Method

- Combine all ingredients over ice in a shaker.
- Shake and strain into a salt rimmed double old fashioned glass.
- *For the Patrón Silver infused with jalapeño: add two whole jalapeños cut down the middle and deseeded into one bottle of Patrón Silver then let set for 12 hours.

Flamingo Park Margarita

This flamboyant and tasty concoction nabbed margarita of the year in 2019, so you know it’s a goodie. While there are a few special ingredients, it’s super easy to whip up. 

Ingredients

45ml Patrón Reposado
15ml Cointreau
30ml Grapefruit sparkling water
22.5ml Fresh lime juice
22.5ml Rich agave syrup
15ml Martini bitter
Tajín, sea salt and black pepper rim*
Optional: dehydrated lime wheel for garnish 

Method

- Rim a footed highball glass with the tajín/sea salt/black pepper mixture.
- Combine spirits, agave syrup, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake to chill.
- Strain onto fresh ice in the highball glass.
- Top with grapefruit sparkling water and stir to combine.
- Garnish with a dehydrated lime wheel.
- *Tajín/sea salt/black pepper rim: two parts tajín: one part maldon sea salt: one part black pepper

Honey-Ginger Margarita

A sweet and spicy bevvy to create with a few pantry staples, the honey-ginger margarita is a subtle yet satisfying twist on the classic. 

Ingredients

60ml Patrón Silver
30ml Honey syrup
30ml Fresh lime juice
3 ginger coins

Method

- In the bottom of a mixing tin, muddle two ginger coins (round slices of fresh ginger about the size of a quarter) with the honey syrup.*
- Add Patrón Silver and lime juice; shake vigorously with ice to chill.
- Strain onto fresh ice in a double old fashioned glass.
- Garnish with a lime wheel and ginger coin.
- *Honey syrup: Combine equal parts honey and warm water, stirring until the honey is dissolved thoroughly.

Watermelon Basil Margarita 

Perfectly fusing the fruity taste of watermelon with the herbal aromatics of basil, this refreshing margarita is like an Italian summer holiday in a glass. 

Ingredients

45ml Patrón Reposado
30ml Fresh watermelon juice or puree
30ml Fresh lime juice
30ml Agave nectar
Watermelon wedge or dehydrated lime wheel for garnish 

Method

- Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake with ice to chill.
- Strain onto fresh ice in a double old fashioned glass.
- Garnish with a basil leaf and wedge of watermelon or dehydrated lime wheel.

Cucumber And Coconut Margarita 

If you love coconut as much as we do, this margarita is the perfect blend of summer freshness—ensure your glass is chilled and your mood even more so. 

Ingredients

45ml Patrón Silver
60ml Coconut water
15ml Fresh lime juice
15ml Simple sugar syrup
7 Thin slices of cucumber, 3 for garnish 

Method

- Combine all ingredients (including 4 of the cucumber slices) in a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously with ice to chill.
- Strain onto fresh ice in a highball glass.
- Garnish with the remaining 3 cucumbers.
