Good news for Inner West golfers, picnickers and clubhouse regulars — Marrickville Golf Club is getting a serious upgrade, and the design process is officially underway.

Following a $6 million investment from the Albanese Government, Inner West Council is partnering with the club to kick off design work on a full renovation of the clubhouse. The building is a long-standing community hub, hosting everything from local sporting groups to cultural events and live entertainment, but it's been well overdue for a refresh.

Here's what's happening.

Why The Clubhouse Needs An Upgrade

Marrickville Golf Club is one of the Inner West's most valued patches of open space, offering an accessible and affordable course for locals. The clubhouse itself, though, has fallen behind — and with the venue used for such a wide range of community events, Council and the club agree it's time for a proper overhaul.

The $6 million Federal Government grant will fund a full renovation, with improved accessibility, updated amenities and a range of other upgrades on the cards.

What's Being Funded

To speed things along, Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne has put forward a resolution for Council to fund the design phase of the renovation itself, ahead of the broader works. The move is aimed at getting the project moving faster so the community can start benefiting sooner rather than later.

Council has described the club as one of the country's most accessible and affordable courses, and says the renovated clubhouse will support even greater use of the site for sport, entertainment and recreation once complete.

The club's leadership has welcomed the news, calling it an exciting time for the organisation. With a long history of community-mindedness, environmental responsibility and full community access, the club says the grant will help it deliver on an ambitious list of planned improvements.

What Happens Next

With design now underway, attention will turn to how the upgraded clubhouse will look and function once complete. No construction timeline has been announced yet, but with Council-funded design work moving quickly, locals can expect more details in the months ahead.

For a club that's long punched above its weight as a community asset, this renovation marks a major step towards securing its future.
