The Noosa Triathlon Is Returning In 2025, Here’s Everything You Need To Know

Not only is Noosa home to Australia’s most beautiful beaches, but it’s also where one of the world's biggest and most iconic triathlon events takes place each November. 

The Noosa Tri is unlike any other event of its kind in the world—the location is iconic, and the vibes are immaculate.

Why Start With The Noosa Tri?

If you’re looking to take your fitness goals to the next level in 2025, then why not make it happen at the one on every triathlete's bucket list? More than just a race, it's a full-on immersive Noosa experience, with the course passing through jaw-droppingly beautiful locations—from sparkling azure waters to lush national parks. 

Entries sell out within 48 hours each year, so you know this one is the goods. Hot tip: entries for individuals and teams open at 11am AEST on Thursday 21 November, so get in quick. 

Outside of the actual triathlon, there’s a stacked roster of events starting on Wednesday, and running right through to Saturday if you’re game to keep chasing the endorphin high. 

Post tri, this coastal enclave comes alive with live music spilling out onto Hastings Street, kick-ons at the Surf Club, and post-race celebratory bashes and boozy dinners at Noosa’s award-winning eateries—but more on that later. 

What You Need To Know About The Race

With 11 events across the five days, there is an event for every type of fitness level. There’s the Noosa Run Swim Run where you’ll tackle a 1.5km jog along Main Beach, before a 750m swim in the sheltered waters of Laguna Bay. The race rounds out with another 1.5km soft sand run before crossing the finish line. 

More of a swimmer? The Noosa 1000 Ocean Swim has been going for 24 years, and is iconic among locals and athletes.  The 1km M-shaped ocean swim will see the winner snag a cool $1,100. 

And if you want to warm up with a trot before the big race, check out the Noosa Breakfast Fun Run, which sees people donning their best pink outfits and walking, dancing or trotting 5km through the national park and onto the boardwalk to raise much-needed funds for breast cancer research.

If you want to tackle the iconic triathlon, you’ll be looking at a 1.5km swim in the pristine ocean, a 40km bike ride up to Noosa Hinterlands and back, followed by a 10km run through Noosa. And while it will be gruelling at times, it'll also be the most beautiful race you ever tackle. 

How You And Your Mates Can Start Training

Everyone talks about the incredible ‘runners high’ you experience when nailing your first big running goal—imagine that times 1,000 when you complete a triathlon. Then imagine sharing that magical feeling with your best mates. From early morning training sessions to having that friend who keeps you accountable, sharing this bucket list experience with your nearest and dearest is oh-so-special.

Fire up your group chat and confirm who in your crew is committed to taking their fitness goals above and beyond in 2025. Once you’ve locked in your tri team, set a reminder to register (remember they sell out quickly) and start nutting out your practice schedule that ensures you’re training up in all three areas of the tri—swimming, running and biking.

For the swim, start out cutting laps at your local public pool to build up strength and fitness. When you’ve mastered that, it's time to take your training to the beach, because swimming in a calm pool and the ocean are vastly different—so you’ll want to build up slowly. For beginners, ask someone in your tri team to SUP beside you in case you need a break. 

For running and biking, STRAVA is your best friend. It’s a free app that acts as a social network for cyclists and runners. You can keep track of your mate's progress and find helpful routes to build up your endurance and skill. Pro tip: try to find surfaces and routes that mimic the Noosa Tri so you can get used to the terrain. 

Where To Eat, Play And Stay Post-Race In Noosa

Noosa is holiday goals personified, so post-race, treat yo’self to all that this seaside nirvana has to offer. 

Eat

There’s a bunch of delish eateries nestled between the shops should you need to refuel. Some of our faves include Bang Bang for drool-worthy Asian fusion, Locale for melt-in-your-mouth pasta and Bistro C for cocktails with a view. 

If you want to dine a little further out, Sum Yung Guys, and Lanai perched on the Noosa River are non-negotiables.

And if you’re looking to sink a cold one or sip a cocktail, Land & Sea Brewery, Ricky’s River Bar, the Noosa Surf Club and Village Bicycle are all guaranteed good vibes. 

Stay

When it comes to accom, transport yourself to the French Riviera at the Sofitel Noosa Pacific Resort. Their private, poolside cabanas can come with seafood platters and bubbles.
