Chase Down Free Plant-Based Eats From This Roving Food Truck

By Jess Willemse

If there's one thing we know to be true, it's that Aussies love their chicken. It's a staple in our meal rotation, from hangover chicken nuggets to the holy-grail chicken schnitty. In fact, we down a mega 45 kilos of the stuff each year.

But with meat-free diets on the rise, it's no surprise we're looking for ways to trim down our poultry intake. Lucky for lovers of all things chicken, a delicious plant-based alternative has finally arrived.

The team over at v2food have been cooking up something good in their meatless kitchen. In the coming months, they're set to drop a new line-up of crumbed chicken bites. On the agenda, you'll find three go-to faves; v2nuggets, v2schnitzel and v2tenders.

Before you even ask, it's all Aussie-made from soy, and they pack a punch with protein, fibre and iron. Of course, none of those nasty artificial colours or flavours are involved. Just crispy, tasty goodness—the tenders are decked out in Southern-style herbs, while the schnitzel is a crunchy delight topped with spices and cracked pepper.

And that's not all. v2food are taking this show on the road, treating the East Coast to a plant-based feed between Friday, March 18 and Friday, March 25. You'll score an exclusive taste of these new snacks in action, thanks to the v2 Food Truck.

Kicking things off at Melbourne Street Eatz, the truck will trek along the coast, joining Wodonga, Canberra, and Newcastle. The team will dish out free eats, beers and tunes in both Sydney and Byron Bay to show the locals some love at this time. Head here for the full schedule.

A slew of v2food's favourites is on the menu, including their plant-based range. Sink your teeth into the v2 Burger, starring a grilled pattie, cheddar cheese, all the salad trimmings and of course, McClure's pickles.

Or, take a bite of the schitz with the Portuguese burger; expect crispy v2schnitzel, lettuce, tomato, veganaise and peri-peri sauce. Add a dose of loaded fries decked out in Mexican-inspired v2mince and molten cheese sauce, and consider lunch sorted.

Ready to put a stop to the drooling? Add the v2 Food Truck tour to your March agenda. You might even score some free merch designed by Nathan Pickering while you're at it.
