NSW Drivers Can Now Claim A New Round Of Toll Relief As $60 Weekly Cap Continues
As January settles in and the post-holiday reality hits, thousands of NSW drivers are doing a small but meaningful piece of life admin.
A fresh window has opened for the state’s weekly motorway spending limit, allowing eligible motorists to recover costs from the final stretch of last year. And people are moving fast: more than 35,000 applications have already landed in just the first fortnight of the year, eclipsing December’s total in half the time.
The scheme, introduced two years ago, has now funnelled more than $215 million back into households across NSW. For most claimants, that’s worked out to just over $300 per person, maybe quietly offsetting cozzie livs where long drives and paid roads are often unavoidable.
Western and north-western Sydney continue to see the biggest returns, with suburbs like Blacktown, Baulkham Hills, Auburn and Merrylands each passing the $3 million mark in total payouts. Other areas likw Lakemba, Castle Hill, Marsden Park and Quakers Hill aren’t far behind, with dozens more neighbourhoods clocking some seven-figure totals.
The policy itself has now shifted from temporary relief to something more permanent. From this year onwards, personal road users won’t be charged beyond a fixed weekly ceiling, with guardrails in place to prevent any cheeky claims (with a $5000 annual cap also cemented).
Customer Service Minister Jihad Dib is also encouraging people (yes, you) to check past activity, noting that claims can be made retroactively for each quarter of last year. With the average return sitting above $300, it’s arguably a rare case of bureaucracy actually paying off.
To claim the $60 weekly toll cap or for more information, visit the Service NSW website, head into a Service NSW Centre or call 13 77 88 for assistance with the rebate calculated and claimed each quarter.
