Ask any Marrickville local about their go-to hangout spot, and chances are they’ll point you to We Three. Humbly calling itself “a bar with food,” its loyal community knows that brief description barely scratches the surface.
Since opening We Three’s doors in September 2023, mother-daughter duo Alli and Catherine Gibson Roy have built the small, family-owned joint into one of the Inner West’s best bars.
Two years on, We Three still radiates a glowing warmth that makes everyone—including doggos—feel right at home. While 2025 marks their second birthday, we have no doubt this is just the beginning.
About We Three Bar

Named after the cult 1987 film Withnail and I, We Three is inspired by Uncle Monty’s line, “and here we are, we three; perhaps the last island of beauty in the world.” For Alli and Catherine, the bar is their own island of beauty.
Set inside a heritage terrace on Illawarra Road, just a short stroll from Marrickville train station, the bar stretches across two levels. The ground-floor features a restored pressed metal ceiling, a front marble bar and a cosy pocket around back.
You’ll almost always find Alli behind the bar, having a yarn with barstool sitters and pouring a globe-trotting wine list, alongside tap beers, spritzes and the monthly feature cocktail.
Meanwhile, Catherine supports the kitchen in creating a stellar menu of Euro-style small plates and pasta until 8.30pm, before a late-night antipasto menu takes over, starring their famously moreish meatballs.
There’s a great round-up of weekly food and drink specials too, including a $17 pasta night on Thursdays, exclusive wine bottle pours on Fridays that spill out into the weekend, $12 signature spritzes on Saturdays, pints for schooner prices all day Sunday, and an epic Happy Hour offering $8 schooners and house wine every Wednesday to Friday until 6pm.
The Radish Lounge
Head upstairs past the neon radish and you’ll stumble into a red-velvet-lined room inspired by London’s 1960s lounge scene.
Aptly named the Radish Lounge—another cheeky nod to Uncle Monty with his radish lapel—the space is built for big group catch-ups, birthdays, hens, farewells and other special events, boasting no venue hire fee and no minimum spend.
We Three’s Artsy Side

As a huge supporter of the arts, We Three hosts regular spoken word afternoons on the third Sunday of every month. Poets and performers flock from all over Sydney to share their work, often written to a rotating theme. They’re free, insanely fun, and welcoming to all forms of artistry.
This year, We Three also hosted its first exhibitions, featuring Western Sydney-based tattoo artist DJ Sagurit and his dad Jim, as well as photographer Ben Oliver’s gloriously gritty Sydney street scenes.
And in exciting news, Dom Foffani is set to take over the space with an exhibition of his collection of painted works from 3 October to 20 December. An emerging artist, maker and designer, expect colour, nature and the unrealised potential of inconsequential objects.
Alli and Catherine are dead set on locking in plenty more events, with an open line to creatives reaching out. They don’t charge any hire fee and just want artists, makers and performers to enjoy the space’s free use.
We Three’s Second Birthday Celebration
Celebrating two years of pours, laughs, and creativity has been a major milestone for Alli, a hospitality veteran who honed her skills at Melbourne’s Hairy Canary, and Catherine, an accountant-turned-swimming-coach-turned-successful-bar-owner (our favourite career pipeline).
To mark the special occasion, the duo are thanking regulars with an invite-only soiree on Friday 3 October, 2025. They’re stoked to raise a glass with their community and can’t wait for what’s next on the horizon.
