Big news people, actually‚ mega news. Sydney will be the new home of Australia’s very first luxury surf lodge and yes, it'll feature an actual wave pool designed for surfing.
Set to open at Wisemans Ferry (so about an hour's drive from the heart of Sydney CBD), it’s been dubbed Wiseman’s Surf Lodge and will give new life to a former accommodation retreat in the area.
The new resort will feature a wave pool that spans the size of about four football fields and will be powered by US-based wave pool technology. The result? The wave pool will be able to create 2.5-metre waves on the main peak, but also smaller waves for any certified groms out there. If that sounds too good to be true, brace yourselves, the wave pool will also have multiple wave-shape playlists—just let that sink in.
Alongside the obvious piece de resistance at Wiseman’s Surf Lodge, the 45-acre property will also keep a nine-hole golf course, 54 hotel suites, a restaurant, bar, and river access.
As for who’s leading the build for this one, you’ll find legendary architect Kelvin Ho (Akin Atelier) who’s best known for his epic designs across a number of Merivale venues, Maldive resorts, and fashion stores like Dion Lee and Camilla and Marc. So it’s safe to say you can expect Wisemans Surf Lodge to scrub up pretty damn beautiful.
While it’s definitely a huge project for the Wisemans Ferry area, the lodge has stated it is commited to minimising environmental impact and will aim to champion surrounding producers and suppliers through its restaurant and bar.
For now, no open date has been set but stay tuned in 2021 for more information.
In other news, Merivale has snapped up iconic Randwick pub, The DOG.
