Algorithm Potts Point

When Baby Kartiko and her husband, Beryl Leomongga, cofounded Algorithm in Marrickville, they never expected the positive reception the cafe would receive. Now, after a year of challenges and delays, their second location in Potts Point is up and running, with its very own curated menu. 

"Algorithm isn’t just a cafe, it’s a community," Baby tells Urban List. "We believe great coffee and amazing food are not enough. We have to put love in everything we do, and it will overflow."

Algorithm Potts Point comes at a time when specialty coffee, matcha, and brunch culture have never been hotter—and they're delivering in spades. Their newest venture has its own blend of beans (the Rhythm blend), crafted in collaboration with Headlands Coffee. 

Their drinks menu is off the charts—think signature cold brew, cold brew matcha topped with espresso cream, and iced oat matcha topped with salted caramel cream and toasted cereal. 

Baby's personal rec, however, has to be the iced raspberry Earl Grey—it's refreshing, housemade, and mixed with brewed French Earl Grey from TTOTALER, raspberries and wildflower honey. 

But it's not just specialty brews at this joint—the brunch menu is stacked with old faithfuls rocking an Algorithm twist. Their signatures include the Algo folded egg: silky truffled egg served with grana padano; and the Avorithm, with smashed avo, burrata, medley tomato, salsa verde and house spiced cashews. 

The Algo classic toastie is definitely underrated, but a crowd pleaser to those who give it a go. 

"It's not just a usual toastie", says Baby. "We put nduja aioli, shaved leg ham, three cheeses, and tomato...drizzle or dip it with our house hot honey, to bring it to the next level."  

If a sweet treat is more your scene, Potts Point is also dishing out house-baked goods to pair with your coffee—housemade banana loaf, served with salted caramel butter; seasonal cookie flavours; and buttermilk muffins. 

"Nothing worth having comes easy", Baby tells us. "Serving people—when you see a smile on their faces, it recharges your soul. When they consume your product, and you see their eyes widen, enjoying it, it brings you joy."

Algorithm Potts Point is open daily—whether you are after a casual coffee catch-up, a second to breathe between meetings, or a well-deserved long lunch.
