Tucked in a 100-year-old modernist building overlooking Taylor Square, Bei is a modern Mediterranean restaurant by the team behind Darling Point’s Bei Amici, with a strong focus on seafood, house-made pasta and seasonal vegetables.

Blending elements of Italian and Greek cuisine, Bei’s menu is small but broadly appealing, with simple snacks like fluffy focaccia with house-made dips or rillettes, delicate veggie dishes, a signature spaghetti with Alaskan king crab, chilli, garlic and lemon (with extra crab available as an add-on), and grilled flank steak with roast mushroom, green peppercorn and fig mustard.

Behind the bar, signature cocktails like a fig Negroni, Italian Paloma and limoncello drop are joined by classic Italian and Australian wines and beers.

Come 4.30pm, Bei’s happy hour offers $8 beers, $10 wines, $12 spritzes and $15 margaritas, with food specials too like focaccia, olives and burrata perfect for nibbling while enjoying the outdoor tables under Taylor Square’s imposing gum trees.
