Local Northern Beaches haunt The Harbord Hotel has debuted Bombies, a laid-back, '70s-inspired rooftop bar and music venue. The waterfront venue is serving up panoramic views of Freshie, live music, and the spirit of surf culture’s golden years.

A call-back to the Harbord’s history, as a meeting point for surfers, locals and beach-goers—the surf slang ‘bombies’ (from the Aboriginal word bombora) refers to offshore reefs that create powerful, unpredictable waves.

The venue captures the spirit of spontaneity, adventure and memorable moments, embracing the coastal spirit of Freshie with a tropics inspired menu. Think salt, sun and sand—stand-out dishes include their mortadella skewers with buffalo curd, green olives, mint, and pickled peppers, as well as the bombies sando: a club sandwich with chicken schnitty, pancetta, avocado, egg, mayonnaise, gem leaves and potato crisps. The drinks menu is just as enticing, with fruit-focused bevvies like the Bombora, which mixes Patrón Silver, triple sec, pineapple acid, and orange.

Entertainment is key at Bombies, with live-band karaoke, curated film screenings, comedy, and a lineup featuring both home-grown and international talent. Better yet, The Harbord’s saturday sessions are moving to the rooftop, so expect an electric dancefloor to finish off your evening with a boogie.

Whether you are looking for a post-swim tipple, or a trendy spot to send off the night, Bombies has the buzz of a beach house party and the tunes to back it up.
