With The Abercrombie's massive makeover in late 2022 came Casa Rosa on its second floor—the first publicly accessible use of the space.

The cocktail lounge and rooftop terrace takes its inspo from Italian evenings, with DJs playing Italo-disco tunes, inspired cocktails, and a menu of sharing-friendly aperitivo.

Bar snacks including yellowfin tuna tartare, pizza fritta with tomato and stracciatella, and crispy agnolotti with sausage, mozzarella, and spicy tomato are served until midnight, while drinks look like  a pét-nat sgroppino with rhubarb and blood orange sorbet, a refreshing Clementine with gin, mandarin, and Amaro Montenegro, or an Ivy League made with cognac, chinotto nero, coffee and habanero.

The interior is awash with pink and green tones, with plush lounges, original contemporary art, terrazzo tables with delicate scalloped edges, a disco ball and pink leather director’s chairs, while outside has built-in, lobster-red seating for soaking up the inner-city sunset.

Bar Demo

Bar Demo is a late-night vinyl bar in Newtown, designed for lovers of a well-crafted drink without the fuss. Owners Claudia Morgan and Olly Churcher (Ex-Double Deuce Lounge) are bartenders by trade, so there’s faith to be had in their curated 60-bottle wine list and seasonally crafted cocktails. The venue itself has grown from their joint experiences working and sipping in some of Sydney’s best bars—Morgan says “we wanted somewhere open late where we could buy a bottle without sitting down for a meal, sink some martinis, listen to some interesting music or have a dance”. Bar Demo certainly checks all of the boxes: open 5pm—midnight, Wednesday—Saturday, with no full kitchen but a dedicated menu for snacks, and a soundtrack of full albums played on vinyl, with each night featuring a curated selection of tunes.
