The Verdict
This new joint in Kings Cross is pumped full of so much 80s nostalgia, it’ll give the back corner of your mum’s wardrobe a run for its money (leg warmers we’re looking at you). Chachi’s is Sydney’s newest dive bar and you can find it in Woolloomooloo.
They’re serving up retro cocktails as well as a couple of naughty burgers to match (we’ll just take one of each thankyouverymuch!). This spot is lit up like to fourth of July, with neon lights and arcade games throughout the entire place, you’ll dead set never want to leave. And why should you?
This place is fully immersive, which means everything from the food and drinks menus to the décor will transport you straight back to the 80s. Kick the Flux Capacitor into full gear as you perch yourself up on the bar seats amongst the Rubik’s cubes & Polaroid cameras.
Order a couple of bright blue Socom Sours and sink into a booth seat with your BFFs while you stuff yourselves with jaffles while playing a board game. We would say “finish” a board game, but who has ever actually done that? Team, your Baywatch bodies won’t look quite the same the next day but that’ll teach you for ordering all those Kevin with Bacon burgers, now, won’t it?

Bar Demo
Bar Demo is a late-night vinyl bar in Newtown, designed for lovers of a well-crafted drink without the fuss. Owners Claudia Morgan and Olly Churcher (Ex-Double Deuce Lounge) are bartenders by trade, so there’s faith to be had in their curated 60-bottle wine list and seasonally crafted cocktails. The venue itself has grown from their joint experiences working and sipping in some of Sydney’s best bars—Morgan says “we wanted somewhere open late where we could buy a bottle without sitting down for a meal, sink some martinis, listen to some interesting music or have a dance”. Bar Demo certainly checks all of the boxes: open 5pm—midnight, Wednesday—Saturday, with no full kitchen but a dedicated menu for snacks, and a soundtrack of full albums played on vinyl, with each night featuring a curated selection of tunes.
