A Chinatown favourite is making its return this weekend, after a tearful farewell at the end of 2025 that had all of Sydney rallying to squeeze in their last meal—clearly, the hysteria was a little premature. Following a brief shutdown linked to a rental dispute, Chinese Noodle House is once again serving diners from its longtime Thomas Street address, reopening Sunday 1 February, 2026.
The much-loved noodle and dumpling spot is back under its original owners, restoring one of Haymarket’s most reliable spots for fast, affordable Northern Chinese fare.
Inside, it’s lively and no-nonsense — tables turning quickly, steam rising from bowls, and a steady stream of regulars ducking in for lunch or late dinners. A handful of outdoor seats offer a breezy option when the weather plays nice, but most of the action happens in the cosy dining room.
Food focuses on hearty wheat-based dishes typical of northern Chinese cooking. Fresh noodles are stretched and cooked to order, while dumplings arrive in generous batches, either crisped in the pan or tender from the steamer. Going the steamed route scores you extra pieces, making it one of the better-value feeds in the area. Fillings range from classic pork and chicken to lamb, plus vegetarian options like egg with chives or rich eggplant.
There’s also the venue’s well-loved braised eggplant — deeply savoury, silky and perfect for sharing alongside noodle soups and plates of dumplings.
With BYO on offer and prices that still lean firmly toward budget-friendly, it remains a lowkey spot you can visit often without breaking the bank—and they'll be glad to have you.
