The Verdict
For authentic Japanese BBQ look no further than Choji Yakiniku in Chatswood. Have fun with your buddies cooking meats to perfection at your very own table-side BBQ.
Serving premium Japanese aged wagyu in cuts that emphasise the meat’s flavour. Think sirloin, rump cap, short rib and skirt. If you’re adventurous you can veer off the beaten path and grill some beef tripe, liver and intestine, but if that’s not for you there’s also pork belly, chicken thigh and pork sausage to please the masses. Choose to marinate your meats in BBQ sauce or keep it simple with salt and pepper. Once cooked you can dunk them in one of the delicious sauces Choji Yakiniku has on offer. Order some assorted veggies to cook up and keep things fresh with some seaweed tofu salad, salmon avocado salad or sunny lettuce.
The menu also features Hokkaido scallops and salmon sashimi, as well as sides like kimchi, pickles, seaweed and edamame. Grab some garlic butter to smother on your meat and you won’t be disappointed. You can also add rice, udon noodles and soba noodles to help soak up your sauces. For dessert, expect delights like roasted green tea ice cream, mango gelato and choji pudding.
There are plenty of Japanese bevvies to keep you hydrated, as well as teas, coffees and juices. If you’re worried you’re going to butcher the BBQing the staff are on hand to show you the ropes, you definitely don’t want to risk overcooking your wagyu.
