Coyoacán Social

Serving Mexican street food and home-style favourites for a great cause, Coyoacán Social is a third venture from Plate It Forward, a socially conscious hospitality group dedicated to driving social change for its workers and communities through food.

The authentic Mexican cantina in Sydney’s South Eveleigh precinct joins Lucky Kwong by Kylie Kwong, super sustainable bar Re. and Australia’s first Indigenous community rooftop garden, affirming the precinct as a diverse dining destination with a lot of consideration for people and the planet.

Mexico City-born head chef Roman Cortes has created a menu drawing inspiration from his hometown’s street food culture, as well as his mother’s and grandfather’s hometowns, Coyoacán and Jalisco.

Highlights are rich birria beef tacos, cochinita pibil pork tacos with pickled onions, pineapple and habanero sauce, and crispy deep-fried flautas.

The bright colour scheme and communal design of the space echoes Plate It Forward’s mission to unite through food, with one meal being donated to the centre in Mexico City where Cortes began his own addiction recovery journey for each one enjoyed in the venue, in addition to supporting Plate It Forward's work in Redfern and surrounds.
