The verdict

Cubby’s Kitchen is set to bring modern Lebanese to Crown Street in August, and we’re pretty excited about the whole thing. Matt Yazbek, the founder of the Toko Group AKA some of Sydney’s best Japanese restaurants, will explore his Lebanese heritage at this new restaurant. Opening as a pop-up first, Cubby’s Kitchen will share a space with Crown Street Fish Shop before finding a more permanent location.

Keeping it in the family, Yazbek has gone into partnership with his two sisters, Diala and Amanda (owners of Crown Street Fish Shop) and will be creating a menu based on family recipes. Even their mother (Mouna, affectionately known as Cubby, hence the name) and brother, Richard will be helping out with the day to day.

We’re expecting big and delicious things from this new restaurant in Sydney, especially with Yazbek’s experience at Toko. And with traditional home cooked Lebanese dishes with a modern twist, we’re sure it won’t disappoint.

Cubby’s Kitchen opens Friday 26 August, 2016.
