The Verdict

Culture Bean is a healthy food lovers haven and an iconic acai bowl destination. This rustic little Kogarah café has withstood the test of time since opening their doors 5 years ago and it’s easy to see why. While the acai bowl trend that swept the nation may seem like a faint memory to many, Culture Bean’s famous Instagram-worthy bowls have been recognised as some of the best in Sydney.

The interior is rustic, featuring exposed brick and ceiling pylons with hanging lights and red accents. It’s a small space with a homey feel, always brimming with customers – so you know the food is going to be good. We also love that Culture Bean has pledged to go green, banning plastic straws and single-use plastic in their café. 

The must-try menu item popping up in newsfeeds everywhere is the acai bowl served iced cold and topped with spelt maple muesli, coconut shavings, strawberries, banana, blueberries, passionfruit and chia seeds – it’s picture perfect and refreshing with a sorbet-like texture. Other standouts include the cultured crumpet stack with CoYo, pistachio crumble and seasonal fruits or the 'choccie monster' smoothie bowl that sounds naughty but we promise is good for you, made with cacao, peanut butter, oats, cacao nibs and chia. 

For lunch try the oh-so-tender beef brisket roll with caramelised onion, kale, pesto and feta, or the famous ‘Culture burger’ with marinated chicken, halloumi, rocket, vine-ripened tomato, sun-dried tomato pesto mayo and hollandaise served on a charcoal bun.
