Revamped Parramatta Road pub The Lady Hampshire is welcoming a late-night eatery and takeaway joint playing on British-Indian cuisine by former Baba’s Place chef Brendan King.
The menu is inspired by Brendan’s childhood memories of his Anglo-Indian upbringing and tales from his Jamshedpur-born grandfather, Derrel, with dishes suited to casual dinners, post-gig feeds, and late-night eats for local hospo workers.
Derrel’s menu spans paratha-wrapped kathi rolls stuffed with skewered meats sauced up with chutneys, onions and yoghurt and served with chips (perhaps the Inner West’s answer to Indian Home Diner’s cult-favourite “Indian kebabs”), rotating curry plates, and spins on traditional Indian snacks and sweets, plus street food eats like vada pav, tandoori wings and butter chicken gravy butties are available on a takeaway menu.
Brendan collaborated with former Baba’s Place colleagues Zaal Kaboli and Alex Kelly to craft a space with a sense of Aussie suburbia with Indian elements, fitted out with second-hand furniture, a bright pink counter, and menus printed on retro Women’s Weekly covers.
Derrel’s will open on Wednesday 8 November.
