Once home to a bootmaker, a pub and an opium den (yes really), Doss House is now an underground whisky bar sitting in the heart of the CBD. If you’re wondering about the name, a doss house is traditionally a place where sex workers could sleep for the night, and while it won’t be playing host this time around, the name is paying homage (once again) to the building’s colourful history.
Now, with that out of the way, here’s the low-down on the whisky. Behind the bar, there are 150 different whiskies—some local, some brewed in Melbourne and others from further afield. Unsurprisingly, there’s also a list of cocktails that make the most of the extensive whisky collection and you’ll be following it all up with their little menu of snacks and charcuterie boards.
