The Verdict
Dulcet Cakes and Sweets has recently opened up in central Burwood and serves up delicious desserts made daily in-house. Delivered to your table on pretty pastel plates (or in takeaway boxes if you’re on the run), the café’s owners Vivienne Li and Juno Zhu have taken patisseries to a new level by making the desserts ‘healthy’. We know what you’re thinking: ‘healthy’ desserts just don’t taste as good as the sugar loaded, carb filled faves’ but guys, you’re wrong—these are the real deal.
Of course, there’s still sugar in their cute and colourful cakes, but they’re far less taxing on the hips than you’d imagine. There’s the flourless Belgium chocolate sponge roll filled with freshly whipped cream and assorted summer berries, the strawberry shortcake and the peach earl grey mousse, among loads of other not-so-guilty treats.
On weekends, they serve an incredible crepe cake, which is basically 20 layers of dreamy, soft French crepes stacked up in the daily special flavor. Make sure you also hit up their drink menu for their strawberry iced tea or a coffee by Little Marionette with a teddy bear design in your milk (in true Chinese style).
