The Verdict

Chippendale just keeps getting cooler with the re-launch of Eastside Kitchen & Bar in The Old Rum Store on Kensington Street.

The New York warehouse-themed restaurant has an industrial feel, boasting exposed brick walls, leather upholstery and dark timbers, in true meatpacking district style.

The menu favours American influences with the subtle usage of Japanese flavours, courtesy of Executive Chef Stanley Wong (from the likes of Spice Market in NYC, Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong and most recently The Private Kitchen in Sydney).

Expect the distinctive flavour of traditional Japanese Binchotan charcoal grill throughout and don't go home without trying the whiskey-brined caramelised Berkshire pork cutlet with a macadamia and coffee relish, potato espuma. Other highlights include Iggy’s sourdough bread with whipped burnt butter + nori (drool) and homemade mango cheesecake (worth every calorie).
