Edinburgh Castle Sydney

The verdict

The Edinburgh Castle, in the inner city of Sydney, has undergone a complete renovation and boy does it look good. From the interior to its food and beverage menu, the Sydney pub has entered 2016 while holding on to its heritage charm.

Head Chef, Daniel Lanza (former North Bondi Fish) uses top quality produce to create a classic Australian pub dining experience with craft beers, cocktails and an all Australian wine list curated by Sommelier, Matt Dunne.

Menu highlights include the crumbed barramundi burger, house made potato scallops with chicken salt, the devon and cheddar toasted sandwich and the classic savoury lamb mince with potato waffle and carrots. There’s also a new snack menu for much needed after work eats including grilled prawns, lamb cutlets and crispy fried squid.

If you’re obsessed with espresso martinis, aren’t we all, the Edinburgh Castle makes theirs with cold drip coffee, salted caramel and popcorn. Another favourite is the Firey’s Thirst made with tequila, Campari, citrus, agave and pink grapefruit soda.

Open seven days a week for lunch, dinner and late night drinks, the Edinburgh Castle Hotel is definitely one to add to your list. We guarantee it will soon become your new local.

Bar Demo

Bar Demo is a late-night vinyl bar in Newtown, designed for lovers of a well-crafted drink without the fuss. Owners Claudia Morgan and Olly Churcher (Ex-Double Deuce Lounge) are bartenders by trade, so there’s faith to be had in their curated 60-bottle wine list and seasonally crafted cocktails. The venue itself has grown from their joint experiences working and sipping in some of Sydney’s best bars—Morgan says “we wanted somewhere open late where we could buy a bottle without sitting down for a meal, sink some martinis, listen to some interesting music or have a dance”. Bar Demo certainly checks all of the boxes: open 5pm—midnight, Wednesday—Saturday, with no full kitchen but a dedicated menu for snacks, and a soundtrack of full albums played on vinyl, with each night featuring a curated selection of tunes.
