The Verdict

It’s the Mexican joint famous for boozy slushie machines, mammoth margaritas and one hell of a Taco Tuesday that can’t be stopped. Making its first foray into Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, El Camino Cantina has officially brought its sombrero-splashed vibes towards the coast.

In true form (ie. the bigger the better), this venue packs out a solid 220 seats and is dressed in all the neon lights and signage, which includes a festively lit,130-seat alfresco area at the entrance.

This mammoth institution churns out tunes that span rock n’ roll, alternative, pop, dance and RnB beats against a delicious backdrop of house-made tortillas, bottomless chips and salsas. As for the heavy-hitters on the menu, dig into soft-shell tacos stuffed with combos like mushrooms with chipotle coleslaw, yoghurt and scallions, and beer-battered Barramundi doused in green mango salsa and jalapeno aioli. You’ll also want to make sure you have room for the chilli con carne nachos (the loaded version is topped with melted cheese, black beans, smoked BBQ brisket, pica de gallo, sour cream and guacamole).

As for the daily deals, this gem has weekday Happy Hours from 4pm –6pm, a $2 Taco Tuesday, 10-cent buffalo wings every Wednesday and half-price fajitas on Thursdays. You can also expect new margarita concoction every month, a selection of Australian craft and flagship Mexican draught and bottled cervezas plus over 100 tequilas and mezcals.
