The verdict

Everyone’s fave staple Mexican eatery, El Topo, is headed to Southwest Sydney, and the expansion means only one thing—more tacos and more tequila. Now, if there’s one thing we absolutely needed more of this week, it’s tacos and tequila. 

They’ve joined forces with the creators of Goodtime Burgers, so you can expect a casual fit-out and a menu packed with street food share dishes. For cheeky nibbles with your drinks, order the chorizo and pea croquettes with sriracha crema and fennel seeds, or the coconut crumbed avocado taco with spicy pico de gallo, radish and chipotle. 

But if you’re in the mood for something on the more substantial side, then the slow-braised beef cheeks will become your new best friend. Topped with sautéed garlic potatoes, pickled guindilla chillies, and a chimichurri sauce, this bad boy will feed a crowd. 

As lovers of a not-so-humble cocktail, we’re all over the bar at El Topo. There are 40 tequilas on their list, like 1800 Coconut and Cazcabel Honey and a jalapeno margarita with chilli-infused tequila, Cointreau, zingy lime juice and jalapeno syrup. And since they don’t believe in making tough life choices, they’ve even got a 'largarita' on the menu. A combination of Corona beer, tequila, lime juice and sweet agave, there is no reason to choose between beer and cocktails.
