The verdict

If it’s a feast from the Middle East you’re after, the Surry Hills/Redfern end of Clevelend Street is the place to go in inner Sydney. Erciyes, named after a Turkish mountain, began life as a take-away joint 20 years ago and in 2006 extended to a 150-seat restaurant.

Its menu is chock-full of hearty favourites such as iskender kebab, pide, mezzes and baklava and on Friday and Saturday nights, the feast is accompanied by belly-dancers.
