The verdict

A classic Sydney venue, Gazebo has been serving hungry and thirsty Sydneysiders since the 1960s. Having recently undergone a refurbishment, Elizabeth Bay's Gazebo is the perfect spot for pretty much any occasion where good times are desired. The space is bright, airy, and perfectly conducive to whiling away an afternoon or evening with flowing drinks and nibbles a'plenty.

If you're anything like us and are keen to get well and truly stuck into a cocktail menu, the staff can definitely help you out there. Think pisco sours on tap, a popcorn-infused mai tai, or the classic giggly rose, and that’s just where we’ll kick things off. If wine is more your style, there’s a hefty menu to work your way through, with plenty of recommendations throughout.

When hunger strikes, remember sharing is caring, and by all means begin with some fresh oysters to rev the engines, or perhaps the chicken liver parfait to warm the soul. We do love to share a pizza among company, and the buffalo mozzarella with dried tomato, wild rocket and aged balsamic is a winner indeed.

If you’re more into doing things solo, the wagyu beef burger is one of the best burgers Sydney has seen for a while, and steps it up a notch with pate, comte, vine tomato, jamon crumbs and incredibly moreish fries.

To top it off, Sundays are for roasting at Gazebo, so head down to celebrate the end of the weekend with a hearty roast that will make an upcoming Monday seem like less of a burden. It changes up every week, so keep your eyes peeled for hints!

Bar Demo

Bar Demo is a late-night vinyl bar in Newtown, designed for lovers of a well-crafted drink without the fuss. Owners Claudia Morgan and Olly Churcher (Ex-Double Deuce Lounge) are bartenders by trade, so there’s faith to be had in their curated 60-bottle wine list and seasonally crafted cocktails. The venue itself has grown from their joint experiences working and sipping in some of Sydney’s best bars—Morgan says “we wanted somewhere open late where we could buy a bottle without sitting down for a meal, sink some martinis, listen to some interesting music or have a dance”. Bar Demo certainly checks all of the boxes: open 5pm—midnight, Wednesday—Saturday, with no full kitchen but a dedicated menu for snacks, and a soundtrack of full albums played on vinyl, with each night featuring a curated selection of tunes.
