The verdict
Gingergirl is a spin off of one of Melbourne’s fave eateries and it's coming to Sydney, in The Star’s final pop-up for 2016. At the helm is Teage Ezard, who’s bringing his Asian hawker-style street food to town, with a summer twist, because Sydney. Gingergirl will be sticking around until March 2017 and while the menu won’t look exactly the same as their Melbourne outpost, it’ll still be pretty similar.
Our top picks are the son in law eggs with chilli jam and prik nam pla or the wagyu brisket with peanut tamarind caramel hot and sour coconut salad. For sweets, don’t ski the thom kha crème brulee with tropical fruits, because is there really anything better than a twisted classic that’s actually good?
For drinks, there are three summery signature drinks, and while the Vietnamese cold brew and green bubble tea punch both look pretty damn good, we’re a sucker for a slushie. The Tropic Thunder Slushie combines everything summer, like coconut water, watermelon, fresh lime, passionfruit and ginger. Rumour has it that it’s a sour warhead meets watermelon slushie. Yeah.
Gingergirl is open now and she’ll be hanging around until March 2017, so get on that.
