The Verdict

If you’re a lover of all things Japanese and delicious, listen up! We’ve just discovered Hotto Motto in the CBD, and yes, you should absolutely drop whatever it is you’re eating and head there right now.

Recently opened after a fancy facelift, Hotto Motto is exactly what bento box dreams are made of. Boasting over 2600 outlets in Japan, it's a hit with Japanese locals for a reason. With a focus on fresh and healthy produce, their Premium Hotto Motto Bento involves an epic and well-balanced combo of wagyu beef, chicken karaage, fried prawn and tartare sauce, as well as rice and vegetables, with your choice of grilled eel or teriyaki salmon. Yep, we told you it was delicious.

If you don’t like seafood, you can’t go wrong with the Chicken Namban Bento (think lightly battered fried chicken, dipped in vinegar) or the Chicken Karaage Rice Bowl (with mouth-watering pieces of chicken marinated in Hotto Motto’s very own garlic soy and ginger blend), but if you’re game enough, opt for the drool-worthy Pork Katsu curry. It’s tasty AF. Trust us.

But it’s not alllll about bento boxes. There’s a whole heap of dishes for you to choose from, hot or cold, and all just as delicious as the next. Whatever you do, order a specially crafted green tea designed to wash it all down, and take home their killer homemade matcha pudding that will keep you coming back for more.

Did we mention they import the rice directly from Japan?

Perfect for a quick but quality Japanese takeaway lunch in the CBD, Hotto Motto is always a good idea.
