The Verdict

It’s been three decades and a cool $6 million in the making, but The Imperial Erskineville is finally unveiling the third phase of its epic redevelopment and we couldn’t be more excited.

Introducing Imperial UP, the latest Italian restaurant and bar to join the Sydney food scene and FYI you can go there right now!

This place is tipped to be the next big thing. Yep, with a huge courtyard (it fits 200 people), this rooftop bar ain’t no ordinary affair. Cue gold mirror-clad pizza ovens, stone mosaic bar countertops and a plethora of pop art and sculptures, this place is post-modern glamour to a tee.

Menu-wise, the legends here have all the goods. We’re talking all your fave Italian dishes like pizza, pasta, delivered with a flamboyant twist, and a selection of vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free dishes for those peeps with special dietary requirements (you know who you are). There’s also an extensive alcohol menu that offers an array of jugs and delish cocktails that’ll remind you of the good times and have you dancing well into the night.

With an epic line-up of events in the work—we’re talking Explore Yourself Sundays (launching 15 July), Lip Sync competitions, a Drag Party lunch and an open-air same sex wedding chapel—we just know this’ll be a place you and the gang are going to be spending a lot of time.

Bar Demo

Bar Demo is a late-night vinyl bar in Newtown, designed for lovers of a well-crafted drink without the fuss. Owners Claudia Morgan and Olly Churcher (Ex-Double Deuce Lounge) are bartenders by trade, so there’s faith to be had in their curated 60-bottle wine list and seasonally crafted cocktails. The venue itself has grown from their joint experiences working and sipping in some of Sydney’s best bars—Morgan says “we wanted somewhere open late where we could buy a bottle without sitting down for a meal, sink some martinis, listen to some interesting music or have a dance”. Bar Demo certainly checks all of the boxes: open 5pm—midnight, Wednesday—Saturday, with no full kitchen but a dedicated menu for snacks, and a soundtrack of full albums played on vinyl, with each night featuring a curated selection of tunes.
