After gaining loyal fans in its original Potts Point location, Izgara has reopened with a refreshed aesthetic, more relaxed setting, and updated menu of Turkish cuisine in the Sydney CBD.
Turkish for “grill”, Izgara draws on the tradition of Istanbul’s casual ocakbasi grills with skilled chefs cooking in an open-style kitchen infusing the whole CBD restaurant with a fiery essence.
The menu now has a contemporary twist on beloved Turkish street food, reminiscent of the dishes co-owners Efe Topuzlu and Ozgur Sefkatli grew up eating in Istanbul.
Menu highlights include lamb koftë accompanied by tangy tomato salsa, hung yoghurt and sister venue Malika Bakehouse’s famous pita bread; Yamba prawns with dill and herb oil; and honey-glazed halloumi with walnuts, sun-dried tomatoes and currents.
For sweet tooths, prepare to swoon over rich treats like cheesecake baklava, mastic ice cream or katmer: a crunchy pancake filled with pistachio and creamy kaymak. Pair with one of their 250 wines from around the world, or a classic cocktail with an oriental spin—we’ve got our eyes on the Apricot Cosmo.
