Say hello to Newtown’s newest Asian fusion joint, Jin’s Teahouse. Located smack bang in the middle of bustling King Street, this drool-worthy eatery is calling your name.
Brought to you by the team who ran your old go-to hangout Luyu, Jin’s Teahouse serves up all your favourite Chinese dishes and elevates them to new and lofty heights. Oh, and you’ll want to fire up the ‘Gram because the menu is all about the theatrics. Think smokey unveilings, flaming desserts and drinks delivered in a smouldering Chinese lantern.
There’s plenty to choose from but to start, we recommend ordering the king prawn Tie Guan Yin tea leaf. It’s a simple dish where the sauce is the hero and drizzled over lightly-battered king prawns and served in a stunning glass lantern shrouded in a smokey haze—this dish oozes drama and we are so here for it. As for the cocktail menu, they’re just as theatrical as the dishes but the OG Jin’s Tea has to be one of the best. A blend of house-brewed tea, vodka, lychee and vanilla served in a traditional teapot, this cocktail is equal parts delicious as it is ‘Gram-worthy. But don’t put away your phone just yet, order up the Smokey Fashioned (a blend of bourbon, bitters and sugar) because it’s delivered to your table in a smoking lantern.
Aside from the menu, the interiors at Jin’s Teahouse are perfect for your next date night. A dimly-lit eatery with an illuminated wrap-around bar, soft leather seating and wooden finishings typical of a traditional teahouse. Overall, it’s a moody space with a welcoming and relaxed vibe.
