The verdict
Joe Black in Surry Hills is a Sydney café that is serious about coffee. They’ve got a filter/siphon bar on their counter making cold drip coffee, and also have Five Senses and single origins on offer that will keep even the most snobbiest of coffee drinkers happy.
Breakfast is thankfully, ALL DAY, which is perfect for those who move a little slower in the mornings and includes the likes of bircher with early season maple, dressed with seasonal fruits and berry compote and slow cooked bolognaise mince, served on sourdough toast with poached eggs.
For lunch, they’ve covered pretty much all the sandwich classics; chicken, roasted beef, pork belly turkey and a salad sandwich. If you’re more of a salad person, the slow cooked lamb salad is a must with roasted pumpkin, beetroot, French lentils and goat’s cheese.
To end your already wonderful experience at Joe Black, you’ll want to try one of their home-baked treats; muffins, gluten-free brownies and salted caramel rocky road are just a few of their sweet sensations.
