The Verdict
What happens when Indonesian cuisine meets traditional cafe staples? A smorgasbord of delicious flavours is what happens . Kusuka in Haymarket sits happily on the spectrum of Indo-meets-Western food and FYI, their food is damn good. Think mi goreng noodles topped with gooey poached eggs, crispy bacon, hash browns or just about any other breakfast side you can think of. And before you ask, yes, there’s avocado.
Kusuka is serving up all the cafe classics from avo on toast (duh) to acai bowls, and burgers—all with an Indonesian twist. The plain ol’ toast comes topped with Kusuka’s signature pork belly, herb roasted mushrooms, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce; and the humble croissant is filled with a slice of smoked wagyu (YES), wilted spinach, tomato and is sprinkled with truffle salt.
If you’re in an adventurous mood then the spicy fried chicken with melted mozzarella, or the ‘Hangry’ bowl will do. The latter is a bit of a monster and involves chilli fried chicken slathered in spicy mayo, served with herbed mushies, chilli taichan, and hash browns all sitting on a mountain of either mi goreng, rice, or both. We’re full just thinking about it.
Drinks-wise, they’ve got everything from an avocado shake (yes, really) to traditional Indonesian coffee and also a red velvet frappe. Done.
