The Verdict
If you’re looking for an authentic food experience, Lal Qila in Darling Harbour is where it’s at. The Pakistani institution first opened in Surry Hills which has seen the likes of Neil Perry, Mark Nicholas, Mushtaq Ahmed and Greg Chapel dine on its signature Pakistani cuisine.
Founder and restaurateur Namir Mirza believes the success of La Qila is down to its authenticity and consistency. There’s no fusion here, rather real flavours.
A major highlight on the menu includes the Chicken Karahi, a traditionally mildly flavoured curry with coriander, cumin and a unique blend of spices. Plus there’s a huge list of clay pot curries including Sultani Saag which is delicately simmered in fresh baby spinach, ginger garlic and a selection of spices.
The naan menu is insanely good featuring chilli cheese, pashawari stuffed with dried fruit, coconut, nuts and baked in tandoor and of course the staple doughy Pakistani favourite Rogani Naan.
